CHAMPAIGN, IL—Today, Christie Clinic announced a three-year plan to construct a new building in northwest Champaign and renovate the University Avenue clinic.

Christie shareholders voted to begin construction, which is estimated to take two years, of the new 60,000 square ft. building in the Clearview development. The new site, located on 25 acres of land, will afford the opportunity for further expansion in the future.

“The expansion is needed to handle the increasing volume of patients coming for specialty care from outside Champaign County. In addition, Christie recently became in-network as Health Alliance providers, so we’ll have the opportunity to serve even more patients,” said Alan Gleghorn, Christie Clinic Chief Executive Officer.

During the third year of this three-year project, departments located in the west end of Christie on University will move to the new facility. At that time, the downtown clinic will be completely renovated with new carpeting, wall covering, lighting, furniture, and a new façade, including windows. When the renovations are complete (estimated to be at the end of 2011), there will be no clinical space in the basement.

Despite the current national economic crisis, Christie Clinic continues to improve and expand programs and services. This year, Christie opened a new facility in Urbana, expanded the clinic in Danville, and poured the concrete for a new facility in Mahomet. Christie also has Convenient Care at two Champaign County Market locations and will open one at the old Burnham site in January.
