  "My interest in neurology began formally as an undergraduate student, where I worked with neuroscience doctors at The Beckman Institute. Their desire to better understand the amazing complexity of the human brain helped fuel my interest and intrigue. As a neurologist, I am able to fulfill my personal intellectual interest of understanding the brain, as well as try to help those who are unfortunate enough to have related problems."

  As a member of Christie Clinic’s Department of Neurology, Dr. Shyu specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders and diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system including: brain tumors, strokes, and seizures; neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders; demyelinating diseases like multiple sclerosis; neuromuscular diseases such as neuropathies and myopathies; and also diseases that relate to cancer.

  Dr. Shyu has family roots in Taiwan and grew up in New York state. In his free time, he enjoys reading about new computer technologies and playing chess and poker. He is also an amateur film reviewer.
