• Why I Chose Health Care
  "After the birth of my daughter I realized that I really enjoyed the entire birthing process. The nurse took care of everything and made the event a wonderful experience. I knew then I wanted to get into nursing. I worked 10 years as an RN in critical care before pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Three years after obtaining my BSN I returned to school for my Master of Science in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner. I love what nursing brings to health care. We include the scientific aspect of medicine with the holistic approach to patient care."

• Department of Cardiology
  As a nurse practitioner in the Department of Cardiology, Ms. Stech works in collaboration with physicians to evaluate and treat patients with diseases of the heart and blood vessels. In the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, she works with our pulmonologists to evaluate and care for patients suffering from diseases of the lungs and respiratory systems. She also follows up with patients after sleep studies for the Department of Sleep Medicine.

• Personal
  Mary grew up not far from Champaign-Urbana. Her husband is a nurse anesthetist who understands her dedication and loyalty to her patients. Together they have two children who continue to further their education.
