The power of PRP

February 13, 2019

Platelet Rich Plasma is a natural product composed of your own blood. PRP is used for treatments because it contains a number of biochemicals that stimulate cell growth and healing. Your own blood is drawn in the usual manner and spun in a centrifuge to remove the red blood cells. This platelet-rich plasma is then ready for use in rejuvenation.

At Christie Clinic’s Department of Dermatology, we use PRP for two common uses: non-surgical hair regeneration and skin rejuvenation.

• Facial rejuvenation for fine lines, laxity, and pigment variation.

• Hair restoration – most of the PRP will be injected into the level where most hair follicles reside. At the hair margins, microneedling and superficial PRP are used to stimulate growth at the frontal hairline.

• Scar treatments for surgical scars and acne scars. Deeper microneedling is done in these treatments. The PRP can be applied topically. Sometimes we may inject it with an insulin syringe with a fine needle.
