Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon Named 2011 Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation

The Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon received the 2011 Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation Award from the East Central Illinois Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionalson November 4that the National Philanthropy Day Luncheon at the Champaign Country Club.This event is held annually by the organization to recognize outstanding philanthropists and volunteers in our area.

This award recognizes an Outstanding Philanthropic Organization (civic or service) for its record of financial support for worthwhile non-profit organizations in a community, state or nationally. The criteria for the award includes: corporation provides direct financial support; corporation supports projects in the community or nationally; and the impact of financial support the corporation provides.  Since the inception of the race, more than $62,000 has been donated from the race owners to Developmental Services Center, Larkin’s Place at the Y, the C-U School Foundation and the Eastern Illinois Food Bank.  These funds have helped to make a substantial difference in the lives of people and families in Champaign County.

About the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon

The Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon was created by Go Far Events, based in West Fargo, ND, in 2008.  In October 2010, C-U Marathon, LLC was formed by six local community leaders who purchased the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon from Go Far Events.  It is the goal of the owners to keep the marathon as a community-based, health focused road race event.  In the past three years, this event has attracted runners from 47 states and 12 countries, becoming a premier U.S. marathon and half-marathon event.
