Christie Clinic Department of OB/Gyn Now Offering Centering Pregnancy®

9/22/2020

Christie Clinic’s Department of OB/Gyn is excited to offer group prenatal care, also known as CenteringPregnancy®.

CenteringPregnancy® brings together 8-12 expecting mothers who are due around the same time, for 10 two-hour routine prenatal care visits. Due to COVID-19, CenteringPregnancy® will be hosted on Zoom until it is safe to return to in-person group sessions. During each visit, patients will engage in their own care by checking their weight and blood pressure, recording their own health data and having private time with a provider for a belly check. This active participation makes mothers more aware of their results and what it means to them and their baby’s health. The remaining time is a facilitated group discussion on health topics related to their pregnancy.

Centering is an innovative, evidence-based model of group care, that is beneficial for moms, babies and health care providers. Patients receive quality care and as part of an ongoing group, form a supportive community where they develop skills and confidence to take control of their health. The Centering model combines health assessment, interactive learning and community building to deliver better health outcomes and a better care experience for patients and their providers. CenteringPregnancy® is a group healthcare model currently supported by the Centering Healthcare Institute, which has developed and sustained the Centering model in more than 450 practice sites and in some of the largest health systems in the world.
