Christie Clinic Cardiologist Lawrence Atherton, MD, received the Physician Champion Award from the Champaign County Medical Society. Dr. Atherton was presented this award for his community service and work with Boy Scout Troop 121 from St. Matthew’s in Champaign. Dr. Atherton has been a Boy Scout leader for twelve years and a Scoutmaster for seven years.
Dr. Atherton stated that being a part of Boy Scouts helps shape youth into future leaders. It is an outdoor-based program that gives youth an opportunity to be with friends, build character, work on physical fitness, and practice good citizenship.
Dr. Atherton is a physician in Christie Clinic’s Department of Cardiology. As a specialist in Cardiology, he diagnoses and treats diseases of the heart and blood vessels.
