Christie Clinic Sells Pharmacies To Walgreens

2/21/2012

On February 14th, Christie Clinic entered into a purchase agreement with Walgreens Co. for the sale of its pharmacy operations on Windsor Road and University Avenue. Walgreens will lease the space currently occupied by Christie Pharmacies for their new operations.  The transfer is expected to be completed by the end of March. Walgreens plans to keep both pharmacy locations open and is renovating the facilities including new signage.

Patient information and prescriptions will be seamlessly transferred to Walgreens with no interruption in service. Both locations will remain open during the transition, with most remodeling happening during off hours to eliminate any inconvenience to patients or staff. Both pharmacies will be closed on March 31st and April 1st for minor renovations as well as operational changes, and will open as Walgreens at 8:00am Monday, April 2nd, 2012.

“After the transaction is complete, Christie Clinic patients and the community will find the same great service and conveniences they are accustomed to from Christie Pharmacy, plus enhanced benefits and features that the trusted Walgreens name adds,” said Alan Gleghorn, Christie Clinic’s Chief Executive Officer. Customers will find the operating hours and even the phone numbers will remain the same.

The Christie Clinic pharmacies employ 22 team members and Walgreens is committed to interviewing all employees affected by the change. Christie Clinic will be working with the affected team members during the transition and those eligible will receive severance pay.

Completion of the transaction is subject to certain conditions and is expected to close by the end of March 2012.
