As temperatures drop, it's the perfect time to make sure you and your family are ready for whatever winter brings. A little preparation now can go a long way in keeping everyone safe and comfortable when snow starts to fall.

At Home: 

  • Check your heating system
  • Seal windows and doors that let a draft in
  • Stock up on essentials like bottled water and non-perishable food
  • Ensure flashlights are working and you have backup batteries
  • Make sure you have extra blankets available in case the heat or power goes out
  • Salt sidewalks
  • Practice safe shoveling
    • Protect your back
    • Pace yourself and take breaks
    • Stay hydrated

In Your Car:

  • Keep an emergency kit handy with
    • Jumper cables
    • Ice scraper
    • Warm clothing
    • Extra snacks

On the Road:

  • Before you head out
    • Check the forecast
    • Clear snow and ice from your car
    • Allow extra time to get where you're going
    • Keep your gas tank full
    • Slow down, increase following distance and watch for black ice

When You're Out and About:
