You received this letter because our records indicate you had laboratory testing performed at Christie Clinic between June 18, 2026, and September 17, 2026. We recently learned that certain blood collection tubes used during this time may not have worked correctly due to an issue identified by the manufacturer. Out of an abundance of caution, we are notifying potentially affected patients and offering repeat testing at no cost. What happened with the blood collection tubes? The manufacturer identified an issue with certain blood collection tubes that may have affected the accuracy of some laboratory test results. Specifically, some potassium results may have appeared higher than they actually were, while some calcium results may have appeared lower. Does this mean my test results were incorrect? Not necessarily. Based on the information provided by the manufacturer, we do not know whether your specific test results were affected or whether any test results were affected. We are offering repeat testing as a precaution to provide additional reassurance. Should I be concerned about my health? We understand that receiving this notification may be concerning. Please be assured that any test results requiring medical follow-up have already been reviewed and addressed by your care team as needed. Repeat testing is optional and is being offered as an additional precaution. Which laboratory tests may have been affected? The issue may have affected potassium and calcium test results. Some potassium results may have been falsely elevated, while some calcium results may have been falsely decreased. Do I need to have my blood drawn again? Repeat testing is completely optional. However, Christie Clinic is offering patients the opportunity to repeat their potassium and calcium tests at no cost for additional reassurance. Will I be charged for repeat testing? No. Christie Clinic will cover the cost of repeat potassium and calcium testing when performed at a Christie Clinic laboratory through this initiative. Testing completed at another facility will not be reimbursed. How do I schedule my repeat laboratory testing? Appointments must be scheduled online using the scheduling widget located at the top of this webpage. Additional appointment times have been made available outside of normal clinic laboratory hours to accommodate patients who wish to repeat testing. Can I call to schedule my appointment? No. Appointments for this repeat testing initiative are available through the online scheduling widget above. Can I walk in for repeat testing? No. The additional laboratory testing appointments require advance scheduling. Walk-ins will not be accepted during these designated appointment times. Can I have other laboratory tests completed during my appointment? No. These additional laboratory appointments are designated exclusively for repeat potassium and calcium testing related to this notification. Can I have my repeat testing completed at another laboratory? You may choose to have testing performed elsewhere; however, Christie Clinic will only cover the cost of repeat testing completed at a Christie Clinic laboratory. Testing completed at another facility will not be reimbursed. What happens if my repeat test results are abnormal? Your results will be reviewed through the appropriate clinical process. If additional medical follow-up is needed, your care team will provide guidance on next steps. What if I don't want to repeat my testing? No additional action is required. Repeat testing is entirely optional. Why is Christie Clinic notifying patients if it isn't known whether any results were affected? Patient safety and transparency are important to Christie Clinic. Although we do not know whether individual test results were affected, we believe patients should be informed of the manufacturer's findings and have the opportunity to repeat testing if they choose. What is Christie Clinic doing to protect patients? Christie Clinic remains committed to providing safe, high-quality care. We are communicating with potentially affected patients, offering complimentary repeat testing and making additional laboratory appointment times available to support patients who choose to be retested. Our priority is ensuring patients have the information and support they need to make informed decisions about their care.
