I was the youngest of three children born to blue-collar parents in Indiana. By the time I was 18 years old, my parents were both older and retired with no money to send me to college. I decided that to obtain my goals, I would join the military. After six weeks of basic training and six weeks of technical school as a nursing assistant, the Air Force sent me to Anchorage, Alaska. I will never forget the day that I walked into the education office at the Air Force base in Alaska at age 18 with no money and told them that I wanted to become a doctor.
I enjoy teaching, reading, playing on the computer, and riding my motorcycle. I like spending time with my kids and my wife of 30 years. I am very much involved in the community. I sit on the Youth for Christ board and I am an active member of the drama ministry at my church. I also participate in many activities there including small group worship.

I want my patients to feel like they have just met with one of their friends after an appointment with me. Things are comfortable and honest, helpful and friendly. I want them to think, ‘I have a friend here who knows some things and can help me.’ I also feel that being comfortable and relaxed in the patient setting is extremely important to a successful outcome. Flowered shirts are my thing. You will probably never see me in a tie.
