In the Department of Cardiology, Dr. Atherton diagnoses and treats diseases of the heart and blood vessels.
Cardiology is an exciting and rewarding profession because it allows us to use our knowledge and technical expertise to help patients survive acute life-threatening illnesses while also caring for them over many years. We focus together on long-term monitoring and treatment, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyles, enabling patients to optimize both longevity and quality of life.
My wife, Linda, and I have four grown children. Together, we enjoy travel, sports, camping and other outdoor adventures, music, and gourmet cooking. My wife and I are very active in the Boy Scouts, and I currently serve as Scoutmaster of Troop 121 in Champaign.
