At an early age I fell in love with science. This continued through my first anatomy class in high school. At the encouragement of my anatomy teacher, and with the support of local physicians taking me under their wing for shadowing experience, I discovered my love and passion for medicine.
In the Department of ENT, Dr. Schmidt treats patients with a variety of nasal and sinus disorders, voice and swallowing concerns, allergies and other ENT conditions.
My husband, Seth, and I have 2 rescue dogs, Odie and Oliver. We spend most of our free time at home with them. We enjoy travel and good food. We are constantly looking for new favorite restaurants wherever we go. I also love to read, and I am almost never without my trusty Kindle. I enjoy cooking with Seth, making crafts (crocheting, calligraphy or painting), and having board game nights with friends. In addition to hobbies, prior to my move back home to Illinois, I was very involved in medical advocacy, as the resident delegate for the state of Missouri at the AMA House of Delegates, an active member of the Missouri State Medical Society serving as Resident and Fellows Chair, Women Physician Section Vice-Councilor and serving on the Governance Committee, as well as the Boone County Medical Society President. I hope to continue this advocacy work back home in Illinois.

While in medical school, the complex anatomy of the head and neck, my interest in working with my hands, and the vast quality of life improvements that ENT can offer to patients drew me to ENT surgery. The ability to connect with patients and improve quality of life for those around me is an honor and a privilege I feel lucky to have.
