My father is a pulmonologist so I grew up surrounded by medicine. As a child, I spent a lot time around my father's hospital where nurses treated me like family. My grandmother, too, always hoped that I would have healing hands and become a doctor like my dad. Those early memories planted a deep sense of purpose in me. I saw how doctors can bring comfort and clarity to people in vulnerable moments—and I knew I wanted to do that too.
In the Department of Gastroenterology, Dr. Asif specializes in diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the liver, pancreas and digestive tract.
Outside of work, I love spending time in nature. My wife and I are on a mission to visit every U.S. national park—we try to check off at least one each year. I also enjoy hiking, swimming and going to the gym to stay active. Lately, I’ve gotten into fishing, which has been a surprisingly peaceful and fun new hobby.

Gastroenterology stood out to me because it blends everything I love about medicine. I get to really sit with my patients, listen to their concerns and try to understand what they’re going through. I truly believe that listening carefully is often the first step to healing. At the same time, I enjoy the procedural side—being able to use my hands and skills to directly diagnose or treat a problem. It’s a field that’s both deeply human and highly technical, and that’s what makes it so fulfilling for me.
