Champaign County Medical Society Honors Area Physicians with Annual Physician Champion Award

Champaign County Medical Society (CCMS) President, Dr. A. L. Jones, presented three area physicians with the Society’s annual Physician Champion Award at its Fall Membership Meeting held on Thursday, September 8th at Biaggi’s Restaurant in Champaign. The awards are presented each year to CCMS members who make a difference with their generous contributions of time and expertise.

Dr. Napoleon Knight, Medical Director for the Rural Alliance for Health Care Excellence for the Carle Health System, received the Community Service Award in recognition of excellence consistently demonstrated by years of service volunteering in the community on various health-focused community boards such as Prosperity Gardens and Hope for the Children, as well as for his and his spouse and family’s work as foster parents.

Dr. Abraham Kocheril, Medical Director of Electrophysiology at Presence Covenant Medical Center, received the Innovation, Education and Research Award in recognition of excellence consistently demonstrated throughout his medical career in areas of innovation, education and research, especially his dedication in advancing technology and protocol development in electrocardiology, and his work identifying heart risk in youth and young adult athletes.

Dr. Shamim Sadiq, Christie Clinic Hospitalist, received the Medical Outreach Award in recognition of excellence consistently demonstrated by her volunteer work as Medical Director of the Avicenna Community Health Center and her role in its formation as well as its ongoing operation. In addition, she is a mentor to medical volunteers at the clinic, especially students pursuing health careers.

Dr. Jones also presented the CCMS President’s Award to Jeanine Alameda and the Dr. Jay Alameda family in recognition of their years of dedication and service to the practice and study of the art and science of medicine in the area of orthopedic surgery and innovative technologies, as well as in recognition of the years of direct support of medical student and resident clinical training and medical care they have provided to residents of Illinois and the University of Illinois, Chicago-Peoria campus and their volunteer support of medical families in our region through donations of time, spirit and good will, and medical education.
