In order to recognize Respiratory Therapy Week, Christie Clinic team members in the Pulmonary Function Lab will host an event open to the community. The event will be held on Friday, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Windsor Education Room on the second floor of Christie Clinic at 1801 West Windsor Road in Champaign. Respicare will be providing free ice cream from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Pulmonary Function Lab will also be hosting an event to recognize World COPD Day on Wednesday, November 14. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Windsor Education Room on the second floor of Christie Clinic at 1801 West Windsor Road in Champaign. This event is open to the public.
Free spirometry tests will be available for screening to those attending both events, as well as information on asthma and lung health. Spirometry tests measure the amount and/or speed of air that can be inhaled or exhaled. Local representatives from home health providers will also be available to discuss how they can assist with any of your at-home needs.
The theme for World COPD Day is “Are you short of breath? You may have COPD! Ask your doctor about a simple breathing test call spirometry.” The goal of this message is to raise awareness of spirometry as the gold standard for diagnosis of COPD. It also emphasizes the preventative actions that a person can take to protect his or her lung health.
